Do you need bath re-enamelling in Pen-y-pound?

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Pen-y-pound

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. If you’re dealing with a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and stains that won’t shift, we can help, on basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths alike.

All our work comes with a one-year guarantee.

Common questions in Pen-y-pound

Are there extra charges for Pen-y-pound?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Usually, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Is there a smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

What a repair cannot fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A bath that is rusted through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Should you replace it?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Why book with us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • One visit for most repairs
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • No extra charge for your area

See our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

How to care for the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

If you manage property in Pen-y-pound, we will quote for several properties at once. Send photos for each one and we will come back with a combined price.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Monmouthshire and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

What we do, step by step

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to most of the day, tidy-up included.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Advice

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • How much damage there is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Send photos for a quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Natural light rather than flash

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.
