How we handle bath re-enamelling in Pentrich

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths. Nothing is disconnected or removed. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and people most frequently call us about an old resurfacing that’s failing and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Pentrich: your questions answered

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work that clears as it cures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Derbyshire.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Are there extra charges for Pentrich?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Repair or replace in Pentrich?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing normally wins. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why us?

  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Pentrich

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off

Before you book anyone

  • What prep work is covered
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • When it can be used again

10 questions to ask before you book

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take the best part of a day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Advice

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around Pentrich, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Steel that has corroded right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.
