Bath re-enamelling in Piece

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Bath re-enamelling in Piece, done in place

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Our repair technicians work on cast iron baths, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and common reasons people contact us are a coloured bath you want in white and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Piece and across Cornwall.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

For anyone letting property in or around Piece, we will quote for several properties at once. Just send pictures for each address and we will come back with a combined price.

What happens on the day

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a full day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Open a window if you can

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Piece

Frequently the bath has just had decades of use, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is generally perfectly sound.

Look out for these signs:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Stains that will not shift

What to look for in a quote

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How soon you can use it again
  • Aftercare advice
