How we handle bath re-enamelling in Pity Me
Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Whether it’s wear marks under the taps and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, we can typically put it right, on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths alike.
You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Pity Me
The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.
If you can see any of these, send us a photo:
- A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
- A coloured bath you want in white
- Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
- An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

Materials and what they mean for the repair
Acrylic
Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
DIY kit or professional repair?
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.
We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
Repair or replace: which is better?
There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Pity Me
Will you leave a mess?
No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.
Are there extra charges for Pity Me?
There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.
Do the materials smell?
A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.
What if the damage is worse than the photos show?
We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.
Do you resurface freestanding baths?
Yes. Inside and out.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.
Do you cover the entire of County Durham?
Across the UK, so Pity Me is covered. Prices don’t change with location.
Is there a guarantee?
All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
What affects the price in Pity Me
Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. What matters most is:
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- What kind of damage it is
- Whether we combine several jobs
- The material
Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.
Quotes from your photos
Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
- A photo taken from further back
- Where you are, by postcode
Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.
Looking after it afterwards
Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:
- Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
- Repair dripping taps early
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.
Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.
What a repair can’t fix
Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:
- Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
- A metal bath with a through crack
- A bath that’s rusted through
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we repair
- Basins & shower trays
- Pressed steel baths
- Cast iron baths
- Acrylic baths
- Victorian roll-tops
The process
You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
- We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
- The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
- Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.
Before we arrive
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
- Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
- Keep a parking space free if you can
Getting a price
For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
