Bath re-enamelling in Plains without replacing anything

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We work on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are a peeling or bubbling previous coating and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

Plains questions

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. We give a fixed quote based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up and a photo of the whole item with your ML6 postcode.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Will there be fumes?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

How long is the bath unusable?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Plains?

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Customers normally contact us about:

  • Stains that will not shift
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

Questions to ask before you book

  • If travel is included in the price
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Who turns up on the day
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Never use suction bath mats

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

Should you replace it?

There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
