When to call us in Portsea
Often the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is generally as strong as ever.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Worn patches where water runs and sits
- Staining under the taps and around the waste
- A coloured bath you want in white
- A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they match the colour on site
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- What aftercare is recommended
- The length of the guarantee and what it covers
Bath re-enamelling at your home in Portsea
Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Common call-outs are for a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and several chips and rust patches, across pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Portsea as everywhere else we work.

Work for landlords and builders
Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.
We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.
Should I try a DIY kit first?
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
Portsea: your questions answered
Do you hold any accreditations?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Is repairing better than replacing?
Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
How quickly can you book me in?
We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.
Can you price it without visiting?
Nearly always. If photos do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.
What areas do you cover?
Everywhere in the UK, Portsea included. Travel is included in the price.
What do you need from me?
Photos of the damage, a photo of the entire bath and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.
How long does re-enamelling take?
Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We give you timings with the quote.
Can you change the colour of my bath?
Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Repairs by material
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.
What affects the price in Portsea
Prices start from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:
- Any earlier repairs that need removing first
- How much damage there is
- The material
- How hard the colour is to match
Compared with replacing, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
How to get a fixed price
Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:
- What it’s made of, if you know
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We will say straight away if a repair is the right fix.
What we do, step by step
Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow the best part of a day. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
- The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
- We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
- The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the next day.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
- Clear the area around the damage
- Keep a parking space free if you can
Getting a price
Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job without visiting.
Advice
Looking after it afterwards
Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:
- Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Have chips seen to early
Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.
The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.
Repairing versus replacing in Portsea
Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
