Bath re-enamelling in Puckpool

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Puckpool

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is typically the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We work on pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Puckpool as everywhere else we work.

Should you replace it?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a full day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the next day.

Which areas do you work in?

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Generally one day, with the bath ready the day after. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. If there’s more, we’ll tell you before starting.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

How to compare quotes

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

How to look after the repair

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • How much damage there is
  • What the surface is made of
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How many items we do on one visit

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Puckpool. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Something in shot to show the size

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Puckpool

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.
