Bath re-enamelling at your home in Ravensmoor

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We are frequently asked to fix worn patches where water runs and sits and an old resurfacing that’s failing, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Ravensmoor and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Prices start from £350. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Questions from Ravensmoor

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

How do I book?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Do you come to Ravensmoor?

We do. We send a technician to Ravensmoor for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

How it works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes the best part of a day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Advice

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We don’t charge extra for travel to Ravensmoor. The price comes down to:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

How to get a fixed quote

Two or three clear pictures are generally enough. It helps if you send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

What we’re called out for in Ravensmoor

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A coating lifting around the plughole

What your quote should include

  • Aftercare advice
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Whether they match the colour on site

Our hiring checklist

When a repair is not the answer

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.
