When to call us in Redhall

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days

Choosing a repair company

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Redhall

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. We are often asked to fix an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and worn patches where water runs and sits, in basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Edinburgh.

For landlords and businesses

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • The type of damage
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Unusual colours or finishes

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before booking, with no extras added later.

How to get a fixed quote

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Upload pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your EH14 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

FAQs for Redhall

Is there a call-out fee?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Can you price it without visiting?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Redhall included. Travel is included in the price.

Is there a smell?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why us?

  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow most of the day from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

How to get a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.
