Bath re-enamelling near Resolfen

Bath re-enamelling in Resolfen, done in place

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. If you are dealing with a coloured bath you want in white and chips and rust in more than one place, we can help.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

For anyone letting property in or around Resolfen, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll price them together.

The process

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book.

Quotes from your photos

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Most clients in Resolfen get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

What we are called out for in Resolfen

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

Comparing quotes

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

10 questions to ask before booking

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Resolfen

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

What we can’t put right

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Resolfen

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.
