How we handle bath re-enamelling in Rudloe

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. If you are dealing with a coloured bath you want in white and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, we can help, on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths alike.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We do not charge extra for travel to Rudloe. The price comes down to:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The type of damage

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Send pictures for a quote

Phone photos are fine. Ensure they show:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed price.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface

How it works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. It normally takes a full day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Ask for a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.
