Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Scruton

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change

Questions to ask before you book

  • How the colour is matched
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

Bath re-enamelling in Scruton without replacing anything

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Whether it’s a coating lifting around the plughole and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

You’re covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

How the visit works

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

When we’d advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we work on in Scruton

  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Repairing versus replacing in Scruton

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is generally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Scruton: your questions answered

Are there extra charges for Scruton?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Do you work in Scruton?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to Scruton and the rest of North Yorkshire. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

When can you do it?

Do you hold any accreditations?
