How we handle bath re-enamelling in Seghill

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, with the bath ready to use the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. We are frequently asked to fix an outdated colour you’d like to change and several chips and rust patches, across Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job. What matters most is:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is
  • The material

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Seghill. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send pictures for a quote

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Any details about the material
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

What a repair can’t fix

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Why repair rather than replace?

There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

What you get with us

  • One price list for the whole UK
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

How it works

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to most of the day, including clearing up.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Seghill questions

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Our hiring checklist

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
