Need bath re-enamelling in Smardale?

How the visit works

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a full day, including clearing up.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Smardale

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. Our repair technicians work on cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths, and common reasons people contact us are enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Cumbria.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Access to the area
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Doing more than one item at once

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Quotes from your photos

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Something in shot to show the size

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can price the job.

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

FAQs for Smardale

Will the new finish last?

Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

What happens next?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

10 questions to ask before booking

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing typically wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • A fixed quote before booking
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
