Bath re-enamelling for South Milton homes

Bath re-enamelling in South Milton without replacing anything

Resurfacing renews the entire surface of the bath without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the whole bath is tired rather than one spot. Whether it’s chips and rust in more than one place and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, we can generally put it right, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays alike.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Common questions in South Milton

What information do you need?

What happens on the day

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take most of the day, including clearing up.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

What we’re called out for in South Milton

Older baths often have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

What your quote should include

  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • How to care for the finish
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What happens if they find more damage

10 questions to ask before you book

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We do not charge extra for travel to South Milton. The price depends on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material
  • How hard the colour is to match

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The material, if you know it

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Repair or replace in South Milton?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, usually one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
