Trusted bath re-enamelling in Stony Heap

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Stony Heap

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We are often asked to fix a peeling or bubbling previous coating and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Keeping it looking good

To keep it looking its best:

  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

What a repair cannot fix

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we work on in Stony Heap

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Should you replace it?

A replacement often means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, generally one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Why us?

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Stony Heap: your questions answered

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Stony Heap?

Resurfacing from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You’ll get a fixed figure before you book.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

What we do, step by step

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a full day.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We do not charge extra for travel to Stony Heap. The price comes down to:

  • How many areas need work
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Send photos for a quote

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

To get a price, send a couple of photos using our quote form or ring us. We’ll say immediately whether it can be repaired.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.
