Need bath re-enamelling in Stornoway?

Should you replace it?

There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why us?

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Everything repaired in place
  • Colour-matched on site
  • Normally one visit, start to finish

Bath re-enamelling in Stornoway, done in place

If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We regularly repair acrylic baths, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are an outdated colour you’d like to change and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether we combine several jobs

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Send pictures for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know

To get a price, send two or three photos using our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the work takes the best part of a day for most jobs. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

How to prepare

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

How to get a price

Email us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Stornoway, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Stornoway

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and you’ll get one combined price.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

Are there extra charges for Stornoway?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Is there a smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

What areas do you cover?

We work UK-wide, so Stornoway is covered. Prices do not change with location.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best:

  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Never use suction bath mats

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

When to call us in Stornoway

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

People generally call us after spotting one of these:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

What to look for in a quote

  • How soon you can use it again
  • Aftercare advice
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
