Bath re-enamelling in Swallow, done in place

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Common call-outs are for an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and chips and rust in more than one place, across Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

How it works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Allow the best part of a day from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Common problems we fix in Swallow

Enamel wears gradually. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use wear the gloss away, usually first under the taps and around the waste.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A coating lifting around the plughole

What your quote should include

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Aftercare advice
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included

Choosing a repair company

What a repair cannot fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How many areas need work

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Send pictures for a quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A picture taken from further back

If you’re in Swallow and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

If you manage property in Swallow, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we will price them together.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Swallow

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

Are there extra charges for Swallow?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the day after. We give you timings with the quote.

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.
