Bath re-enamelling at your home in The Folly

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Our technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and common reasons people get in touch are staining under the taps and around the waste and lots of chips and rust spots.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

What a repair cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in The Folly

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Most people contact us when they notice one of these:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Stains that will not shift

What to look for in a quote

  • How the colour is matched
  • How long it needs to cure
  • Aftercare advice
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

How to compare quotes

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Why The Folly clients choose us

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone pictures are fine. Just ensure we can see:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Natural light rather than flash

Most customers in The Folly get their price from pictures. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
