Should you replace it?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Why The Hacket customers choose us

Bath re-enamelling in The Hacket without replacing anything

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. Whether it’s a peeling or bubbling previous coating and an outdated colour you’d like to change, we can generally put it right.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in The Hacket and across South Gloucestershire.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

What we’re called out for in The Hacket

Hard water speeds up the wear, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

What your quote should include

  • How the colour is matched
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

How to compare quotes

What we cannot put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

How the visit works

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes most of the day, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Common questions in The Hacket

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, and that includes The Hacket. Prices do not change with location.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

What happens after I send photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale cannot build up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
