Bath re-enamelling in The Mint without replacing anything

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. If you are dealing with a peeling or bubbling previous coating and worn patches where water runs and sits, we can usually put it right.

Every job is backed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Work for landlords and builders

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Common questions in The Mint

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Will the new finish last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Normally, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Do you cover The Mint?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to The Mint from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Repairing versus replacing in The Mint

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Plan for most of the day. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

How to get a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.
