Bath re-enamelling at your home in The Village

We re-enamel a lot of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Common call-outs are for chips and rust in more than one place and an outdated colour you’d like to change, on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including The Village. The price reflects:

  • The material
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How much damage there is

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your photos

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It normally takes the best part of a day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the following day.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

The Village questions

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Does re-enamelling smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Will the price change on the day?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

Landlord and trade work in The Village

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
