Bath re-enamelling in Thealby, done in place
Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We regularly repair basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a coating lifting around the plughole and stains that won’t shift.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

Should you replace it?
For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.
Why Thealby clients choose us

Materials and what they mean for the repair
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
Thealby questions
Is my repair covered?
Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
Is a repair better than a new one?
In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.
Can pets and children be at home?
Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.
How long will the bath be out of use?
Usually one day, with the bath ready the day after. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.
Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?
Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.
What do you need from me?
A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

What we can’t put right
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:
- A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Steel that has corroded right through
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
What we work on
- Pressed steel baths
- Acrylic baths
- Cast iron baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Victorian roll-tops
Should I try a DIY kit first?
The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What else we do in Thealby
When to call us in Thealby
Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.
The things customers typically mention when they call include:
- A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
- An outdated colour you’d like to change
- A roll-top that’s seen better days
- Several chips and rust patches
What to look for in a quote
- What prep work is covered
- Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
- The length of the guarantee and what it covers
- Who turns up on the day
How we price bath re-enamelling
Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before booking. We look at:
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- How easy the damage is to reach
- How hard the colour is to match
- The size and number of damaged areas
Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
How to get a fixed quote
Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. There’s no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.
Aftercare tips
Once the work has cured, treat it gently:
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
- Repair dripping taps early
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Respect the curing time we give you
Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface.
How the visit works
We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.
- First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
- Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
- Clear the area around the damage
- Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
