How we handle bath re-enamelling in Tinkers Cross

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We are often asked to fix staining under the taps and around the waste and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, across Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes the best part of a day for most jobs. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Advice

Tinkers Cross: your questions answered

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Tinkers Cross?

Prices start from £350. Every job gets a fixed price based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your SP6 postcode.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

What areas do you cover?

All of Hampshire, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Normally, yes. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Tinkers Cross?

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

Before booking anyone

  • How long it needs to cure
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • How the colour is matched

How to compare quotes

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Repairing versus replacing in Tinkers Cross

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface without moving it. Prices start from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

What you get with us

  • No extra charge for your area
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • One visit for most repairs

See our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

When we would advise against a repair

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Tinkers Cross. What changes the price is:

  • The material
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How many areas need work

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed quote.
