Bath re-enamelling for Tomintoul homes

When a repair is not the answer

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Tomintoul

About our bath re-enamelling in Tomintoul

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the following day. If you’re dealing with staining under the taps and around the waste and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, we can usually put it right.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Landlord and trade work in Tomintoul

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

What we are called out for in Tomintoul

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

How to compare quotes

Tomintoul: your questions answered

When can you do it?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

Look after it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Should you replace it?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface without moving it. Prices start from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Tomintoul

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We don’t charge extra for travel to Tomintoul. The price comes down to:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • What the surface is made of

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Tomintoul. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Any details about the material
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A picture taken from further back

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

What we do, step by step

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes a full day. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
