Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, with the bath ready to use the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. Whether it’s an outdated colour you’d like to change and a roll-top that’s seen better days, we can help, whatever the material.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It typically takes most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Ask for a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

DIY kit or professional repair?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Landlord and trade work in Totland

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

If you manage property in Totland, we will quote for several properties at once. Send pictures for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Repairing versus replacing in Totland

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Repair dripping taps early

Dry the bath after use if possible, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

When to call us in Totland

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

Clients generally contact us about:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • What preparation is included
