How we handle bath re-enamelling in Twenty

We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. Common call-outs are for an outdated colour you’d like to change and several chips and rust patches, in basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Common questions in Twenty

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Will the new finish last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Repairing versus replacing in Twenty

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

What you get with us

  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • No need to remove anything
  • Most jobs done in one visit

What affects the price in Twenty

Prices start from £350. We don’t charge extra for travel to Twenty. The price depends on:

  • The material and finish
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your pictures

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Natural light rather than flash

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you’re not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes a full day in most cases. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Getting a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.
