How we handle bath re-enamelling in Upper Winchendon
When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is usually the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Whether it’s an old resurfacing that’s failing and chips and rust in more than one place, we can help, on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths alike.
Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

How the visit works
There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take the best part of a day, including clearing up.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
- We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
- We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
- The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the day after.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know which floor the room is on
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Open a window if you can
How to get a price
You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

How to look after the repair
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Get any chip repaired quickly
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse off any bath products.
Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
When a repair isn’t the answer
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:
- Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
- A bath that’s rusted through
- A metal bath with a through crack
Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
Materials we repair
- Pressed steel baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Acrylic baths
- Cast iron baths
- Victorian roll-tops
Can I fix it myself?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

What your bath is made of matters
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.
Pressed steel
Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
Do you need bath re-enamelling in Upper Winchendon?
By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Resurfacing sorts them out together.
It’s worth getting a quote if you see:
- A coating lifting around the plughole
- Wear marks under the taps
- Lots of chips and rust spots
- Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough

Upper Winchendon: your questions answered
What do you need from me?
Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.
Will there be fumes?
There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.
Is it messy?
Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.
What happens next?
You’ll get a fixed quote back, usually with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.
Can you price it without visiting?
Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.
Can you change the colour of my bath?
Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.
Does someone need to be in?
Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.
Repairing versus replacing in Upper Winchendon
Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
