How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Access to the area
  • The material and finish

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Well Head. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Details of any past repairs

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

What we do, step by step

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes the best part of a day, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

How to get a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

When a repair is not the answer

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Landlord and trade work in Well Head

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Repair dripping taps early

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
