Repair or replace: which is better?
Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Bath re-enamelling in Whitecross without replacing anything
Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Our technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a roll-top that’s seen better days.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Related advice
How we price bath re-enamelling
Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Whitecross. What changes the price is:
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- What kind of damage it is
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- The size and number of damaged areas
There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.
Quotes from your photos
It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- One sharp close-up of the damage
Send us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your EH49 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.
When a repair isn’t the answer
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:
- A bath that’s rusted through
- A metal bath with a through crack
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
Surfaces we repair
- Acrylic baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Basins & shower trays
- Pressed steel baths
- Cast iron baths
Keeping it looking good
Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:
- Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Fix dripping taps quickly
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
