How we handle bath re-enamelling in Wilton

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We are frequently asked to fix worn patches where water runs and sits and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are covered after the visit.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Common problems we fix in Wilton

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Stains that will not shift
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Several chips and rust patches

How it works

We work cleanly and quietly. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes a full day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Open a window if you can

Questions from Wilton

What information do you need?

Send pictures through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we will take it from there.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

How long is the bath unusable?

Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

What happens if you find more damage?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Never use suction bath mats

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.
