Bath re-enamelling in Wrabness, done in place

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We’re frequently asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and stains that won’t shift, in acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

What we do, step by step

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes most of the day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Repairing versus replacing in Wrabness

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why book with us

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A bath that is rusted through
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

What we are called out for in Wrabness

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Stains that will not shift
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing

What to look for in a quote

  • How soon you can use it again
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Whether they match the colour on site

How to care for the repair

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.
