Bath repair near Appley

Bath repair at your home in Appley

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, usually in a single visit. We are frequently asked to fix scuffs and scratches in the surface and chips on the rim or sides, in acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What affects the price in Appley

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Unusual colours or finishes

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Any details about the material
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Email us a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in Appley, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust sets in.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

What a repair can’t fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Repair or replace in Appley?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Our bath repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why us?

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • No extra charge for your area

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which usually takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

When to call us in Appley

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: the bath is not properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

The things clients typically mention when they call are:

  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
