Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

About our bath repair in Ashculme

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. If you are dealing with scratches you can feel with a fingernail and snagging damage from a refit, we can help.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Ashculme as everywhere else we work.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

What happens on the day

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow a few hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Why repair rather than replace?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Our bath repair starts from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Ashculme

  • One visit for most repairs

FAQs for Ashculme

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Usually, yes, if we can reach behind it. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Typically, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a photo.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Is a bath repair permanent?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, so Ashculme is covered. Prices do not change with location.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many areas need work

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed quote

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • The material, if you know it
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Honest limits

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.
