Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

FAQs for Bagillt

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Normally, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Do you cover the entire of Flintshire?

The whole UK, including all of Flintshire. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

When can I have a bath again?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we’ve done.

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

There is nothing special to do after a repair, just sensible cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There is no charge for travel to Bagillt. The price depends on:

  • Access to the area
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material
  • How many areas need work

Compared with replacing, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Send pictures for a quote

When you take your pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a fitted bath normally means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in a single visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Bagillt. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Plan for a morning or an afternoon. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let us know about parking or access

Advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.
