Bath repair near Banchory

About our bath repair in Banchory

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all repaired in place, typically in a single visit. Common call-outs are for impact holes in acrylic and chips under the taps, on roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.

Homes around Banchory range from cottages to newer houses. Older ones may still have cast iron or steel baths, which are well worth keeping, and newer ones normally have acrylic.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Aberdeenshire.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

How the visit works

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes two to three hours for most chips. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on. In a smaller place like Banchory, parking is rarely a problem. Mention a lane, gate or long drive when you book and we’ll plan for it.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Advice

Questions from Banchory

Can you restore the original baths in an older house in Banchory?

Typically: period pieces can be hard to match if replaced. Send pictures and we will advise.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Usually. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

What information do you need?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

When we’d advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Do you need bath repair in Banchory?

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath isn’t properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • Chips under the taps
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

If you live in one of the older homes near a church such as Banchory Ternan East Church, an original cast iron or steel bath is worth keeping, and bath repair gives it years more use.

10 questions to ask before you book

What affects the price in Banchory

Repairs from £95. There is no charge for travel to Banchory. The price depends on:

  • How much damage there is
  • The material
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Unusual colours or finishes

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any details about the material
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Should you replace it?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Around Banchory, arranging several trades for a replacement can take a while. A repair needs just one visit.

Prices start from £95. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Banchory. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
