Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Bath repair in Boarhunt without replacing anything

Repairing baths is what we do most. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. Common call-outs are for rusty patches near the plughole and scuffs and scratches in the surface, across cast iron enamel, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

Repair or replace in Boarhunt?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why us?

  • Normally one visit, start to finish
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do

When a repair is not the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. There is no charge for travel to Boarhunt. The price comes down to:

  • How much damage there is
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material and finish

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How to get a fixed price

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Something in shot to show the size

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Boarhunt: your questions answered

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

How quickly can you book me in?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, frequently. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Is a bath repair permanent?

Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we are there. We protect the area first, then the work takes a morning or an afternoon. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

There is nothing special to do after a repair, beyond gentle cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and give it a rinse after each bath.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Signs you need bath repair in Boarhunt

Baths take more knocks than people expect: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Over time, chips and rust spots are almost inevitable.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A hole punched through by something heavy

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
