About our bath repair in Chell

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. A repair stops both. We’re frequently asked to fix a chip where the taps sit and an old repair that has yellowed or come loose, on whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

Bath enamel chip by the waste, filled and colour matched (before and after)

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Chell. The price comes down to:

  • How many areas need work
  • What kind of damage it is
  • What the surface is made of
  • How hard the colour is to match

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Chell. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes a few hours, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

How to get a price

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.

What we’re called out for in Chell

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Legs that aren’t adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the base flex until it cracks.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Holes from dropped items
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface

What your quote should include

  • How soon you can use it again
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match

When a repair is not the answer

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Chell questions

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Usually the next day. We confirm the time before we leave.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and you will get one combined price.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.
