Bath repair in Claygate

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. We protect the area first, then the work takes a few hours. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Advice

Bath repair in Claygate without replacing anything

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles are not touched, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Common call-outs are for deep scratches in acrylic and hairline or through cracks in acrylic, across pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

FAQs for Claygate

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes. We remove the rust and loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Do you cover Claygate?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Claygate. Send photos and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it. Prices start from £95. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Claygate

  • No need to remove anything
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Most jobs done in one visit

See our pricing and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Rinse it down after each bath

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once

Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from pictures

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. There’s no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.
