Bath repair near Coat

Repair or replace in Coat?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Bath repair in Coat without replacing anything

Whatever the damage, the aim is the same: a repair that’s smooth, sound and hard to spot. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it’s level with the surrounding surface. Common call-outs are for hairline or through cracks in acrylic and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, across cast iron enamel, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Coat as everywhere else we work.

What affects the price in Coat

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether we combine several jobs

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The material, if you know it
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Most clients in Coat get their price from pictures. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Work for landlords and builders

If you manage property in Coat, we will quote for several properties at once. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll price them together.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

When to call us in Coat

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Holes from dropped items
  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Rust spots around the plughole

10 questions to ask before booking

Coat questions

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

How it works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes two to three hours for most chips, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Advice

What your bath is made of matters

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.
