Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

A repaired bath needs no special treatment, beyond gentle cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and rinse after use.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

Bath repair at your home in Cockfield

A repair fixes just the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. Most baths can be used again the following day. We work on whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are deep scratches in acrylic and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

If you manage property in Cockfield, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Send photos for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

When a repair is not the answer

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in Cockfield

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

What affects the price in Cockfield

Prices start from £95. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • The material
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The type of damage

A repair typically costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your photos

Two or three clear pictures are usually enough. Try to include:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Natural light rather than flash

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Why repair rather than replace?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Plan for a few hours, depending on the damage from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Related advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.
