How we handle bath repair in The Slack

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Whether it’s an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and snagging damage from a refit, we can help, on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel alike.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in The Slack and across County Durham.

Common questions in The Slack

What information do you need?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item with your DL13 postcode.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across County Durham.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to two to three hours for most chips.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Getting a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair is not always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel

Landlord and trade work in The Slack

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

For anyone letting property in or around The Slack, we will quote for several properties at once. Send pictures for each one and we’ll price them together.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. We give every job a fixed price from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Access to the area
  • What kind of damage it is

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Getting a price from photos

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Natural light rather than flash

Send us photos of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in The Slack, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

What we are called out for in The Slack

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

People generally call us when they notice one of these:

  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting

What your quote should include

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long

Why repair rather than replace?

Think about the hidden costs of a new bath: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.
