Down Thomas: your questions answered

How do I get a price for bath repair in Down Thomas?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote from your photos. Send a close-up and a picture of the entire item and your postcode.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price. There’s no obligation to book.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is a bath repair permanent?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Most baths can be used the next day. We will tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • How much damage there is
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from photos

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Any details about the material
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Most clients in Down Thomas get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

How to care for the repair

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby

A repaired bath needs no special treatment. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and rinse after use.

Small chips are quick to repair. Leave them and they collect dirt, stain and, on metal baths, rust, so early repair saves time and money.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Repair or replace in Down Thomas?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. If the whole surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you. Our bath repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Landlord and trade work in Down Thomas

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
