  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic

Bath repair in Dunkirk, done in place

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. If you are dealing with a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and scratches you can feel with a fingernail, we can normally put it right.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Should you replace it?

People frequently assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Typically it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Our bath repair starts from £95. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Dunkirk. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Dunkirk. The price depends on:

  • The type of damage
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The colour and finish to match

A repair generally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

How it works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a morning or an afternoon, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, usually by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
