Bath repair in Engine Common

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • How much damage there is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What kind of damage it is

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Send pictures for a quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures using our quote form or call us. We will say immediately if a repair is the right fix.

Bath repair in Engine Common without replacing anything

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. We work on whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic, and the jobs we see most are holes from dropped items and a chipped rim or side.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Before and after: a chipped, rust-stained bath around the plughole

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes two to three hours for most chips, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear the area around the damage

Advice

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip.

When we’d advise against a repair

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we work on in Engine Common

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Repairing versus replacing in Engine Common

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Our bath repair starts from £95. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Why Engine Common clients choose us

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • A fixed quote before you book

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Have new chips seen to early

A repaired bath needs no special treatment. Skip bleach and gritty creams and give it a rinse after each bath.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Questions from Engine Common

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we will quote them together.

Do you cover the entire of South Gloucestershire?

The entire UK, including all of South Gloucestershire. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including older coloured suites.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.
