Bath repair near Mangotsfield

Bath repair in Mangotsfield, done in place

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and the bath is back in use the following day. You will not need a plumber or tiler, because nothing is disconnected. We’re often asked to fix rusty patches near the plughole and deep scratches in acrylic, on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

Before and after: a chipped, rust-stained bath around the plughole

Why repair rather than replace?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Prices start from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

When a repair is not the answer

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

How the visit works

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job generally takes a few hours. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Related advice

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

Mangotsfield questions

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Can you redo an old repair?

Regularly. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Do you come to Mangotsfield?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Mangotsfield from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

What affects the price in Mangotsfield

Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • Access to the area
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How much damage there is

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A picture taken from further back

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Common problems we fix in Mangotsfield

A cracked acrylic bath typically wasn’t supported properly. Legs that are not adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the bath move.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • Chips under the taps
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • A chipped rim or side

What to look for in a quote

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • When it can be used again
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether they match the colour on site
