About our bath repair in Gutch Common

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. If you are dealing with scratches you can feel with a fingernail and chips under the taps, we can generally put it right, on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel alike.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. It usually takes two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the following day.

Advice

What affects the price in Gutch Common

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • The material and finish
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What kind of damage it is

Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Getting a price from pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

To get a price, send two or three photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. With a repair, it’s one visit and one price. Prices start from £95. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

Why us?

  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Everything repaired in place

Nearly always. If pictures do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

How to look after the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.
