Bath repair in Kingsbridge

Bath repair at your home in Kingsbridge

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in a single visit. We work on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths, and the jobs we see most are hairline or through cracks in acrylic and a kit repair that didn’t last.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

For landlords and businesses

If you manage property in Kingsbridge, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim typically crack when it comes out, a new panel is frequently needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it. Our bath repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

How to look after the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Kingsbridge. The price reflects:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What kind of damage it is

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to get a fixed price

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Details of any past repairs
  • The material, if you know it

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the work takes two to three hours for most chips. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips, with dropped shower heads close behind. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Chips on the rim or sides

What your quote should include

  • What happens if they find more damage

Kingsbridge: your questions answered

How do I get a price for bath repair in Kingsbridge?

Repairs from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

What happens next?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

How invisible is a bath repair?

The goal is a repair that blends in. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we will tell you what to expect.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
