Bath repair near Layton

Questions from Layton

Will I be able to see the repair?

We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You don’t need to watch us work.

What do you need from me?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we’ll take it from there.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Often, if there’s access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Bath repair in Layton, done in place

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. Most baths can be used again the day after. Typical jobs include impact holes in acrylic and a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting, in cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and pressed steel enamel.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow a morning or an afternoon from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Open a window if you can

Advice

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Layton. What changes the price is:

  • What the surface is made of
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Layton. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Keeping it looking good

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Repairing versus replacing in Layton

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. With a repair, it’s one visit and one price. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

What a repair cannot fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
