Bath repair in Lillington

How we handle bath repair in Lillington

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and the bath is back in use the following day. There’s no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. If you’re dealing with cracks in an acrylic bath and snagging damage from a refit, we can usually put it right.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for two to three hours for most chips from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Advice

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

FAQs for Lillington

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

What information do you need?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Will the repair last?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

How long before I can use the bath?

Generally within a day, though it depends on what we’ve done.

What your bath is made of matters

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

When to call us in Lillington

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and building work is a common culprit. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted

Questions to ask before booking

  • How long it needs to cure
  • How to care for the finish
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included

Choosing a repair company

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
